LEADER DEVELOPMENT

LEADER DEVELOPMENT

All members are given the opportunity to develop themselves and get involved in their co-op. This involvement can begin at any step in the process, and will follow differing tracks. Cornerstone for Engagement (or similar introductory programs) is the desired starting point for all tracks. Members may pick and choose among the items within each track to create their own individual development plan.

1. Cornerstone for Engagement

A successful cooperative is one that invests in the development of its members. Strong, capable leaders are a key component in positioning Land O'Lakes, Inc. for stability and growth in the marketplace. As the ag industry prepares to pass the reins on to the next generation, we must ensure our members are ready to lead and serve their co-op, community and our federated system.

Cornerstone for Engagement provides Land O'Lakes members a more in-depth view of their co-op and sets them on a path toward developing the skills needed to lead their business and cooperative.

2. Growth for Advocacy

Growth for Advocacy provides Land O'Lakes members a more in-depth view on advocacy and leadership opportunities within Land O'Lakes while providing assistance to develop a path for future advocacy and leadership goals. Benefits of attending include:

Increased understanding of legislative challenges and Land O'Lakes role in advocating for members
Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of elected leaders including regional councils and board of directors
Assistance in developing a path for future advocacy and leadership goals

3. Individual Development Plan

An individual development plan, or IDP, is a process that will assist you in identifying and tracking personal development needs and plans. The IDP can help you reach short- and long-term goals through self-identifying skills you want to improve and strengths you want to leverage. Additionally, the IDP includes the Leadership Competency Model evaluation that helps you assess where you stand on the path to becoming an elected leader.

What are the benefits of an IDP?
  1. Greater self-awareness
  2. Increased skills and capabilities
  3. Align development needs with offerings
  4. Gain a sense of direction
  5. Improve focus and effectiveness
  6. Create motivation and resilience

4. Mentorship Program

Our mentorship program pairs our more experienced members with emerging leaders to share their knowledge, strengthen our cooperative system and prepare the next generation. Mentorship is a one-on-one relationship where one person provides advice, guidance, coaching and support to another person who may be less experienced. This program is not meant to solve problems or remove any issue, but is designed for people to learn from one another and reduce the need to learn as you go.
